Description
Spirulina usually refers to two types of cyanobacteria of the genus Arthrospira genus Arthrospira maxima (scientific name Arthrospira maxima) and Arthrospira platensis (scientific name). These two varieties were originally classified into the genus Spirulina (scientific name Spirulina) and later into the genus Arthrospira, but they are still customarily called "spirulina".
