Steel Rebars / Reinforcement Bars

1. Types of Rebars

Deformed Rebars (ribbed): Most commonly used, offers excellent bonding with concrete

Plain Rebars: Smooth surface, used for special structural applications

TMT Rebars (Thermo-Mechanically Treated): High strength, corrosion-resistant bars widely used in modern construction

2. Standard Grades

Based on international standards:

ASTM A615 (USA)

Grade 40: Yield strength 280 MPa

Grade 60: Yield strength 420 MPa

Grade 75: Yield strength 520 MPa

BS 4449 (UK) / SABS 920 (South Africa)

Grade 250: Mild steel

Grade 460B or 500B: High yield deformed bars

ISO 6935 / EN 10080 (Europe)

B500A and B500B: High ductility ribbed bars

3. Sizes and Dimensions

Diameter range: 6 mm to 40 mm (commonly 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm)

Standard length: 12 meters (other lengths available upon request)

Dimensional tolerance: As per ISO 6935 or client specifications

4. Mechanical Properties

Yield strength: Between 250 MPa and 600 MPa depending on grade

Tensile strength: Minimum of 1.08 times the yield strength

Elongation: Between 12 percent and 16 percent

Bend test: Must pass without cracking

Fatigue resistance: Required for use in heavily loaded or seismic structures
