Description
Papaver somniferum flowering plant of the family Papaveraceae, native to Turkey and Afghanistan. It is grown for its tiny nonnarcotic ripe seeds, which are kidney-shaped and greyish blue to dark blue; the seeds are used in bakery products and for seasoning, and oil. It is also grown for it’s ornamental beauty. The colour is pink as in the images to a lighter more whitish colour. They are stunning and easy to grow. They are legal to be propagated in South Africa as ornamental flowers and not legal to be grown commercially for other purposes.
