440C stainless steel is a type of martensitic stainless steel, suitable for a round bar shape. After heat treatment, it can achieve the highest hardness, strength, and wear resistance among all stainless steel alloys.

440C is very similar to 440A and 440B, but contains a higher carbon content, which leads to lower corrosion resistance.

440C stainless steel is relatively easy to machine in the annealed condition. It is recommended to use hard alloys or ceramic cutting tools for machining this alloy.
